Brisbane Neighborhood
Boise, Idaho
Brisbane Neighborhood's a northwest Boise subdivision, established in the late 1990s, just north of Pierce Park Elementary.
We take pride in being a small, quiet, and affordable neighborhood.
Brisbane's within a larger neighborhood known by City of Boise as Pierce Park.
The association - common lots, board, dues, meetings
Brisbane subdivision has 3 common lots:
a path to/from Pierce Park Elementary
a large empty drainage basin lot
the island on Gold Coast St
That's a lot for a neighborhood of our size. These lots are not owned by City of Boise, Ada County, or Boise Schools, they're owned by Brisbane Neighborhood Association, which all subdivision property owners are members of. (We also sometimes call it Brisbane HOA.)
The current association board/officers elected by members are Wade (president), Sabina (treasurer/secretary), and Dan. All three live in the neighborhood.
Common lot maintenance, insurance, and improvements are paid for through a regular assessment (aka "dues") charged to members. Dues for 2023 are $150/yr. (They started at $120/yr in 1998.) For more details on expenses see our documents section.
Elections and budget/planning happen at our annual meeting, typically held late April. Our most recent meeting was April 25th 2023. See documents for minutes.
Common lots: what've we done, what might we do?
In 2022 we
re-landscaped the island - its trees were crashed & removed in 2020. The new design reduces water & maintenance required.
repaired the water valve for the drainage lot
In 2018 we replaced the grass on either side of the path with rock. The water valve had a leak, and the pines do fine without additional water. Turning water off and losing the grass reduced costs to weed control and volunteer fall cleanup, which helped as costs rose. (We'll probably eventually need to redo the asphalt.)
We've removed portions of drainage lot fence - it's been hit several times, not repaired well or consistently. Removing all fence other than shared portions, and maintaining the basin/slopes to a higher standard, may be an alternative? Ada County Highway Department limits what we can do to the basin - it must drain, and they'd intervene if it didn't - but shade trees on slopes may be an option?
Members discussed cluster mailboxes in the past, replacing the individual owner-maintained posts & boxes. These are pretty expensive (but maybe not more than sum of individual owner replacements), have upsides and downsides.
